PURPOSE:To improve spalling-resistance and wear-resistance of a roll by applying ceramic flame spraying layer on a hardened building-up layer or a hardening layer which is formed on the cylinder surface of a steel roll, and has the hardness required. CONSTITUTION:First, a hardened building-up layer is applied to the cylinder surface of a roll or a hardening layer is formed thereon. In this case, hardness is as follows: H3>H1+(H2-H1)X(1/3), wherein H2 is above HS50, H3 is the hardness of a hardened building-up welding layer or a hardening layer, H1 is the hardness (HS) of base metal, and H2 is the hardness of flame spraying layer. Subsequently, the cylinder surface of the roll is coated with flame spraying carbide or oxide ceramic by a device with heat source of plasma jet or oxyacetylene flame. |
