<p>A method of forming holes in the ground, for the subsequent planting of poles or stakes, wherein the holes are made simultaneously with the compaction of the ground around the location of the hole. Apparatus for this method comprising hole making means e.g. a post 1 driven into the ground by a vibrating hammer 37 and means to apply a compacting force to the ground around the location of the hole being made, e.g. a ramming bed plate 51 surrounding the post 1 and driven by a pair of rotating out-of-balance weights 43, 44. After forming the hole the post 1 is retracted by jack 42 to allow a pole or stake to be planted in the hole. <IMAGE></p> |
