PURPOSE:To make an optical transmission line of arbitrary shapes with good accuracy by putting an optical fiber consisting of a polymer material into molds, heating the same, removing the molds where a part thereof is in contact with the inside wall to allow the fiber to expand then pressing the molds to the fiber thereby shaping the same. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 21 is put into the hole made by combining molds 11, 12 coated with silicone oil, and a mold 13 coated with silicone oil is pressed to these. When the molds 11-13 are heated, the fiber 21 softens, shrinks axially and is sucked successively into the hole. At the point of the time when the fiber 21 abuts on the mold 13 and swells no longer, the mold 13 is removed. Since the fiber 21 swells upper than a face 20, the mold 13 is pressed and the upper swollen part is moved laterally. By the repetition of this, a shaped article 22 is obtd. Thereby, the optical transmission line of arbitrary shapes is made with good accuracy. |
