The solid wood sections (10) are provided on one edge with a groove and on the opposite edge with a tongue. The other edges are milled on each side by 45 deg. for about one quarter of their thickness and provided with a dove-tailed groove (14) designed to take a dove-tailed grooved tongue (22) on an end strip (20). The end strips pref. have one to four tongues (22) and their length equals the width of a wood section (10) or a whole number multiple of it so that now completely different shelf and cupboard units can be assembled with min. effort, e.g. single width units for shelves, double-width units for bookcases, or triple width units for cupboards.
