Thermal insulator

A thermal insulator comprises a foamed plastic body with at least one insulation zone, embedded therein, of evacuated insulating powder and a container surrounding the former and consisting of a plastic sheet or a sheet-like plastic/metal combination. The plastic body is advantageously foamed by means of a fluorochloromethane gas (Freon gas), since this has a larger molecule diameter as compared with air and thus less easily penetrates the wall of the container. Even without using a container having rigid and resistant walls, the thermal insulator therefore has the advantages of vacuum insulation.
