PURPOSE:A friction material with excellent frictional characteristics, wear resistance and mechanical strength at a high temp. useful for a brake lining, etc., which is prepd. by the incorporation of a pulp-like material with excellent chemical resistance obtd. from an arom. polyamide having a specified structural unit. CONSTITUTION:A friction material compounded with a pulp-like material comprising a polymer selected from an arom. polyetheramide[such as one obtd. by the reaction of at least one compd. from compounds of formulaI(wherein A and B are -COX where X is halogen, -NH2, -NH2HX, etc.), formula II (wherein A and B are as described above) and formula III (wherein A and B are as above described; Ar is an arom. carbon ring residue in which the bonding chains extend uniaxially or in parallel) such that the total mol number of the -COX group is equal to that of the -NH2 and -NH2HX groups, and 7.5mol% or more compd. of formulaIis contained], an arom. polysulfideamide, arom. polyamineamide, etc. The friction material is excellent in chemical resistance, wear characteristics at a high temp. and wear resistance, and suitable for use in a brake lining of an automobile, power transmossion mechanism for a variety of power systems. |
