<PICT:0848424/IV(a)/1> An apparatus for washing and after-treating artificial threads comprises a trough or shallow tank 4a for containing washing or after-treatment liquid 4, the surface of which is indicated by the arrow S, a flat plate 5 arranged at such an inclination as to form an angle of less than 90 degrees with respect to the surface of the liquid and to dip at its lower end into the liquid, two or more parallel plates 8 arranged at the upper end of the plate 5 and at right angles to it so as to form between them narrow gaps through which liquid can be discharged from the upper end of the plate 5, a freely rotatable roller 2 dipping into the liquid, and a roller 7 provided with parallel circumferential grooves. The arrangement is such that a travelling flat sheet of closely spaced threads 6 is caused to travel upwardly parallel to, but spaced at a small distance from, the plate 5. The bath liquid is directed through the slots formed by the plates 8 into a receiver 9, whence it returns to the tank 4a. The sheet of threads 6 is preferably spaced 0,5 to 3 mm. from the plate 5 so that the sheet entrains the bath liquid as far as the upper end of the plate. The apparatus prevents turbulence of the bath liquid even when the speed of travel of the threads is over 100 metres per minute, e.g. 156 metres per minute. |
