<p>D-1246 AN ABRASIVE FLAP DRUM An abrasive flap drum, including an elongated hub having a circular cross section for supporting abrasive material for producing abrasive action upon rotation of the hub, the hub including a plurality of spaced helical slots each extending along the length of the hub and with progressive positions of each slot rotated angularly to form each helix, a plurality of abrasive packs of flaps each extending outwardly from the hub and each positioned adjacent and individual one of the helical slots, a plurality of means each including a loop of sheet material coupled to an individual one of the packs and to a helical slot for supporting each of the abrasive packs from one of the helical slots, and each of the abrasive packs formed from a plurality of individual flaps of abrasive material and with each flap formed with oppositely disposed curved edges and with the curved edges of each flap following the curvature of one of the helical slots when the individual flaps are formed into the abrasive packs and are positioned adjacent the individual ones of the helical slots. The flaps are cut from a roll of abrasive material in a longitudinal direction and with the warp of the material. The abrasive pack may also include adhesive material at the base portions and with the abrasive pack held in a helical fixture as the adhesive sets.</p> |
