Sulphides of formula (I) are new: (where the dotted lines represent optional bonds in the 2,3 or 2,3 and 4,5 posns; X is CH2, O or S when the X-contg. ring is satd or contains a 2,3-double bond, or X or S when the X-contg. ring contains 2,3- and 4,5-double bonds; Y is O ro S; R1-4 are H or 1-3C alkyl). Cpds (I) are aromatising agents useful for reinforcing the meat aroma of meat-contg foods or for imparting a meat aroma to non-meat foods.
