The V-belt pulley is adjusted automatically by centrifugal force, and is esp. for use in the steplessly adjustable drive of a washing machine. It comprises a hub with two truncated-cone flanges, both turning with it and one sliding on it, together with centrifugal weights supported on a disc fixed to the hub and between the disc and the sliding flange. These are held by a spring-loaded locking device in the position giving the smallest effective pulley dia. and when released thrust the sliding flange towards the fixed one. The locking device (27) incorporates a release lever (42) eccentrically mounted on the supporting disc (5), and a locking member mounted concentrically on the hub (4) between the disc and the sliding flange (3). The member turns to and fro between the locked and released positions, and is secured in the former by the release lever.
