PURPOSE:To enable multicolor dot printing without lowering the printing speed with selective generation of heat from heating element trains by arranging multicolor thermal ribbons so that color belts thereof always face to the heating elements. CONSTITUTION:A thermal printing head 2 is mounted on a guide rail and a thermal ribbon cassette 3 housing an endless tricolor thermal ribbon 4 is mounted thereon. When a printing instruction is provided, the head 2 performs a printing in red dots with a first heating element 2a, in blue dots with a second heating element train 2b and in yellow dots with a third heating element train 2c. With the movement of the head 2, the ribbon 4 is fed by fixed quantities in the same direction. Therefore, color-dot printing is completed for one line simply by single movement of the head 2 along the printing line according to color selection data and heating element specifying data during the instruction of printing. This enables multicolor dot printing without the need for changing colors of a multicolor ribbon. |
