In a displacement measuring instrument which consists of a housing which has a completely encapsulated design, a scale which is rigidly connected to the housing, a spindle which bears at its front end against a measurement object and is moved to and fro in accordance with the displacement of the measurement object, and a movable scale which is connected to the spindle and measures the displacement of the measurement object by means of a change in the physical value between the movable scale and the fixed scale in accordance with the displacement of the measurement object, an impeller is provided which can be rotated as a function of the to-and-fro movement of the spindle or of the movable scale, so that a motion resistance that increases with increase in the rate of motion can be opposed to the motion of the spindle or of the movable scale.
