PURPOSE:To easily manufacture a stable electrochromic display device (ECD) with no parallax by setting a background plate made of printed or colored porous ceramic plate between display and opposite electrodes for an ECD while leaving a narrow gap between the plate and the display electrode. CONSTITUTION:For example, in case of an EC cell for a watch, a front substrate 1 made of glass and the edge of a pan-shaped rear substrate 1' are tightly sealed with an adhesive layer 11. On the inside of the substrate 1 a transparent display electrode 2 made of thin film of In2O3 or SnO2 and a thin WO3 film 7 for conducting a segment type time display and selection and indication of a day of the week are formed in order, and an opposite electrode 3 is laid on the inside of the substrate 1'. An alumina-base ceramic plate 5 having letters 14 representing the days of the week baked by a screen printing method and an impregnable layer 16 composed of fibers of glass, plastic or the like are interposed between the electrodes 2, 3, and an electrolytic soln. 6 is filled. Since the electrode 2 is close to the background plate 5, no parallax is produced, and the cell is easy to manufacture and stable. |
