Electrophotographic element (48) charged and provided with an image, continuously and progressively, by the use of a laser beam (38) modulated using digital data existing in a memory, by using an apparatus which carries, on the one hand, the element (48) and, on the other hand, a charging device (56-58) and a beam-directing device (40-42), in such a way that there is a rotational and axial movement of the element (48) with respect to the said device or vice versa. The application of toner and/or the fixing thereof and/or a transfer apparatus may be performed in conjunction with the abovementioned apparatus or separately. The image is produced by using radiant energy, by converting a master image into a digital data or information item, by storing the latter and by using the stored information subsequently in order to provide the electrophotographic element with an image.
