PURPOSE:To enable detection of electric charge and a deflecting position even in a recording width, by arranging an electric charge-detecting means for ink drops at the opening of a gutter in an ink jet recorder, and makng the detecting means movable in company with a carriage. CONSTITUTION:An ink particle-catcher 10 is fiexed to the top end of a carriage 50 on which an ink spary head 5, a charging electrode 7 and a deflecting electrode 9 are mounted. The catcher 10 is constructed by an insulating body 10b and a metal gutter 10a. To the gutter 10a is connected an electric charge-detecting circuit. In addition, below the catcher 10 is located an ink-recovery through 11 over the range in which the carriage 50 moves. Phase indexing and setting a phase for charging voltage pulses are done by dwindling the voltage of the deflecting electrode into zero, bombarding the ink particles to the gutter 10a and detecting the electric charge rate of the ink particles with the electric charge-detecting circuit. In addition, phase discrimination can be performed at any position where the carriage 50 is located. |
