An amplifying gate disc thyristor has a segmented control electrode structure that is bridge connected using bonded wires. A slice of semiconductor (1) has a branched structure control electrode (3) on it main surface (2) which is the emitter (6). The primary trigger pulse is fed to a central circular electrode (7) and is radiated through a six finger non-continuous control electrode (3.1) to arc control electrodes (3, 3.2). The gaps (4.1, 4.2) in the radiating finger structure (3) are bridged by pressure contact bonded bridge wires (5).
