PURPOSE:To measure the width accurately regardless of the up and down movement of the moving metal body from the output of a pair of sensors provided under both edges of the moving metal bodies and the output of a third sensor. CONSTITUTION:A pair of the sensors are provided under both edges of the moving metal body, so that they can be moved in the direction of said body. The sensor which senses the up and down movement of said body is provided. The variation in the width of said body is computed from the output signals of said sensor. The value is compared with a reference value to obtain a true width value. For example, a pair of the sensor 2 are provided at specified positions under both edges of the moving body 1 by controlling a motor 5 and transferring mechanism 3 and 4 by using width setting device 9, a comparator 11, a sensor 6, and the like. These signals and the up and down variation signals from a sensor 7 are processed by computing devices 8 and 10, and the result is compared with the reference value. Thus the value of the width can be accurately measured. |
