Each carton moves along a conveyor track (54). The first operation makes the initial form of the closure by pressing down the base of the sides. The carton next has the sides at the top pushed together by jaws. When the top has been given parallel straight sides, partially closed, they are sealed together by the application of heat between two swinging jaws. This melts the thermoplastic and gives a leakproof joint when cooled and hardened. The following station (40) turns the sealed top at an angle and this is pushed flat (42) before passing under a pressure plate (44) for final sealing flat (46). |
