PURPOSE:To make the period of sheet carriage after separation equal to or larger than the predetermined value by detecting the carriage mode of sheets transferred intermittently and operating a separation means on the basis of information from a control means for controlling a separation speed according to the detected mode. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is equipped with the first sensor 27 for detecting the carriage mode of paper notes A transferred intermittently, a control part for controlling the separation speed of a separation part 3 on the basis of information from said means 27, a feed roller 3c for operating the separation part 3 on the basis of information from the control part and a delivery roller 3a. And an interval between the note A in a separation process at the separation part 3 and the previously separated note A is detected and when the interval is less than the predetermined value, an operation is made by the control part to obtain the speed of the separation part 3 necessary for enlarging the insufficient interval, thereby making speed control for the separation part 3. Consequently, the carriage speed of the paper notes A after separation can be made equal to or larger than the predetermined value.
