PURPOSE:To prevent theoccurrence of large periodic vibrations of a steel bath owing to bottom blowing gases by locating the static level of molten iron in the tapered and reduced part adjacent to the bottom of the furnace where the inside diameter decreases toward the lower part. CONSTITUTION:Blowing gases such as oxidative or inert gases are blowing into molten iron 7 through the tuyeres 6 in a furnace bottom surface 5. If at this time the level of the static steel bath exists below the boundary position P of the barrel part 4B in a furnace side part 4 and a reducing part 4C, the vibrations of the furnace body decrease considerably as compared to those in the case when it exists above the position P. The probable reason for this lies in that the inside surface of the part 4C is inclined at a prescribed angle in a funnel shape with respect to the furnace central axis C and therefore the reflection of the vibrations of the steel bath on the inside surface of the furnace wall is carried out with a time lag, thereby resulting in attenuated vibration energy.
