<p>Design such as that of grained wood is applied onto the surface of a substrate of Al (alloy) covere with a film due to anodic oxidn, by placing the surfae of the substrate in contact with water on top of which is a colouring or dyeing compsn. contg. an oil pigment, the compsn. being spread over the surface of the water. The water may be still or flowing and the substrate flat or inclined when it is brought into contact. The colouring compsn. pref. contans a vehicle and a solvent, being org. and soluble in both water and oil e.g. and upper fatty acid, an upper fatty alcohol, or their mixt. An extremely wide variety of different designs imitating the appearance of grained wood is obtd. with simple appts. and at low cost, avoiding the use e.g. of offset impression printing, which is expensive if many different patterns are required.</p> |
