A gas turbine engine, in particular for driving motor vehicles, has three impellers (rotors) mounted on dedicated shafts and arranged for a serial flow of the gases. In order to provide advantageous arrangements for the gas ducts and the shaft, stator and rotor systems, at least one of the turbine impellers is designed for an essentially radial gas flow and for transferring the exhaust gas into a following impeller with optimum use of the residual energy of the gases. The transfer is preferably performed with the aid of a double screw which forms the outlet of one impeller and the inlet of the following one.
