The assembly is used for the excitation coil for a three-phase current generator includes a support lever (11) pivoting about an axis (10) near one end. The other end of the lever houses the carbon brush (12) which is coaxial with a metal contact rod (13) extending back through the support lever. The carbon brush is urged into contact with a collecting ring (14) by a spring which is attached to the pivoting support lever. The main part of the lever is made of metal, except for the end portion (16) which is made from synthetic material. The end of the brush which is received in the synthetic support has a groove cut in it to ensure that the support grips it adequately. In an alternative design the whole of the lever may be made of the synthetic material.
