PURPOSE:To improve the adsorbing capability for radioactive waste gas, by installing a cooling device in an activated-carbon adsorbing tower for adsorbing radioactive waste gas to decrease the temp. rise in said tower due to disintegration of said gas. CONSTITUTION:Radioactive waste gas flows into an adsorbing tower from a waste gas intake 8 to contact with an activated carbon 14 through a perforated plate 9, etc., and flows out from an exit port 2 through a filter 3. At a shell 4 of the adsorbing tower, an inlet port 5 and an exit port 12 for refrigerant are provided and the ports 5 and 12 are connected by plural heat transmitting pipes 13 which are in contact with the activated carbon 14. For example, in a radioactive waste gas adsorbing tower for a fast breeder reactor, the heat of disintegration causes the tower temp. rise of about 4-5 deg.C/hr. Hence when the adsorber is left in operation as it is, and after the temp. of the tower reaches its operating temp. the adsorbing capability of the tower is reduced to one half of itself in 7-9hr but the deterioration of the adsorbing capability is prevented by cooling it with said pipes 13.
|
