In a gas or liquid fuelled smokers' lighter having flint-wheel ignition, with the flint-wheel apparatus situated at the top of the lighter, a spring 10 which retains a flint (9) in position, is held in a tube 13 passing through a fuel tank 1, and rests on a sliding cover 11, the cover being slidable lengthwise in a longitudinally extending groove (21), open at one end (22), in the base (3) of the lighter. Within the sliding cover 11 there is a longitudinal groove 37, open and tapered inwardly at one end 44, the side walls of which groove have undercuts 38, and in the groove 37 a guide pin 39 for spring 10 is retained with a disc 40, provided with a projection 41 adapted to engage into either of two recesses 42 and 43 formed in the cover 11 to give a two position click-stop mechanism such that the filler orifice 20 at the base (3) of tank 1 is uncovered when projection 41 engages in recess 43. For changing the flint (9), the sliding cover 11 is pushed outwardly until tongues 33 and 34 disengage from the complementary recesses (28) and (30). The sliding cover 11 with guide pin 39 and spring 10 can then be removed from the base of tank 1, the guide pin 39 being retained in the groove 37 by disc 40. The sliding cover may also cover a recess for spare flints. |
