An extruded plastics tube 3 is cooled upon emergence from an extruder 2 by chilled air delivered to orifice 18 in a rotatable member 8, the air entering the member when orfices 11 therein coincide with ports 4 in a fixed base member 1, a seal being provided between member 8 and base 1 by annular flanges 12a, 12b on the former depending into fluid containing annular cavities 13a, 13b in the latter, see also Fig. 2 (not reproduced). Rotatable member 8 is provided with insulation 14, baffles 17 and a belt driven pulley 10 which is centred and supported by inclined rollers 9 on base 1. Ports 4 in base 1 are each connected to a conduit 5, and these conduits receive chilled air from a fan 7 via a distribution chamber 6. A sealing fluid mentioned is mercury. |
