PURPOSE:To ensure an effective use of the width of a tape, by completely eliminating the deflection toward the width of tape which is caused by the conversion of the head contact position toward the width of tape. CONSTITUTION:A traveling tape 11 receives the control with high accuracy for its position toward the width, i.e., the direction of height with a head mechanism 16 and by flanges 14a and 14b plus 15a and 15b at both sides of guide posts 14 and 15, respectively. The mechanism 16 also includes a tape guide 19 of a columnar face shape which extends toward the width of a tape that is press-contacted with the tape 11 traveling between the posts 14 and 15. A through-hole is formed to the guide 19, and a recording/reproducing head 20 is protruded through the hole. Both the guide 19 and the head 20 are controlled to be shifted toward the width of the tape 11 in a body as shown by an arrow in the diagram. |
