A method of making a refractory lining composition containing between 25 and 94 percent by weight Al2O3, the composition being made in granular form and being pneumatically processed in order to produce a homogenised compressed composition suitable for lining a furnace. The lining is subsequently solidified chemically and ceramically to form a unified layer of refractory material incorporating aggregate which binds the lining.
