Appts. comprises an upper plunger adapted to move up and down with respect to an intermediate plunger, a vertically movable support resiliently connected to the intermediate plunger by springs, narrow plungers secured to the movable support and slidably extending along the sides of the intermediate plunger, and laterally movable side plungers adapted to move within recesses formed in the side walls of a metering frame encircling the intermediate plunger, and power clinders for forcefully moving the side plungers inward of the metering frame. When chips are filled in the cavity defined by the intermediate plunger, the side plungers and the metering frame, the upper plunger is lowered and seated against the top of the metering frame and then the side plungers are advanced inwardly to compress the material packed in the cavity portions defined between the sides of the intermediate plunger and the adjacent side plungers. Then the movable support is raised, forcing the narrow plungers and the intermediate plunger upwardly so as to compress the material chips into a compacted board. |
