1512632 Producing silicon steel BRITISH STEEL CORP 7 March 1975 [8 March 1974] 10551/74 Heading C7D A silicon steel for magnetic applications is produced by innoculating steel, produced by basic oxygen or open hearth refining, with Si and Mn, and additionally V as a carbide or nitride former in a quantity sufficient for the carbides or nitrides to promote preferential grain growth. The steel preferably contains 2-4% Si and 0À06-0À10% Mn. The steel is cast, formed into slabs, hot-rolled, annealed, cold-rolled to final gauge, decarburize annealed, coated with MgO and box annealed. |
