PURPOSE:The titled plated article, prepared by forming a smooth surface layer containing no filler with a mold in which only the surface is heated in molding as ABS resin containing a filler, and plating the surface layer, and having a mirror surface and a good dimensional accuracy. CONSTITUTION:A high-frequency induction heater, consisting of a high-frequency oscillator 1 and an inductor 2, mounted on an ordinary injection molding machine, and capable of heating only the mold surface is used to injection mold an ABS resin containing a wellknown filler, e.g. glass fibers. For example, high-frequency oscillations are produced before the injection molding under the following injecting conditions: the temperature of a cylinder 3:240 deg.C, output of a high-frequency oscillator: 50kW at 7kHz and oscillating time of 15sec. Thus, only the surface (A) of the fixed mold 4 and the surface (B) of the movable mold are heated selectively to give a molded article having a smooth surface containing no filler on the surface layer thereof. The resultant article is then plated by the conventional method. EFFECT:No silver streak and improved dimensional stability and heat resistance. |
