PURPOSE:To accurately detect the residual amount of an ink and suitably find a time for exchanging the ink, by a method wherein a bottom part of an ink storing container is formed in a cantilever structure and a strain gauge is adhered to the cantilever so as to detect the residual amount of the ink. CONSTITUTION:A part of a lower case of the ink storing container 20, namely, the continuous parts 20a, 20b, 20c which are respectively parallel to three sides of the case are cut out, and a part 20d parallel to the remaining side of the case is cut out to form a bottom face 20g connected to the case through parts 20e, 20f. An ink bag 22 containing an ink 23 is incorporated in the container 20, and the weight of the bag 22 is supported by the springy cantilever 24 integrated with a receiver 25 for the container 20. The strain gauge 26 for detecting the strains of the cantilever 24 which vary with the change in the residual amount of the ink is adhered to the fulcrum side of the cantilever 24. |
