PURPOSE:To reduce the motive power of lapping equipment and the consumption of a lapping tape, by making a prescribed air layer between the tape and a model and providing an air pressure pipe which constitutes a pneumatic bearing, to diminish the ineffective resistance to the feed of the tape. CONSTITUTION:When a gauge block 7 which serves as a model for the machined surface of a workpiece is mounted, a contact plate 72 parallel with the back side of a profiling block 71 provided with an air chamber 711 on a reference plane is put on the back side of the block 71. The block 71 is provided with a plurality of air holes 713 which are arranged in a prescribed manner and extend through the block 71 from the air chamber 711 on the back side to the guide face 712 to define a uniform air layer between a lapping tape 3 and the block 71. The back side 52 of the preparatorily shaped workpiece is placed in contact with the mounting surface 421 of a rest and secured so that the roughly shaped side 51' of the workpiece almost faces a model surface 712. Adjustment is effected to apply prescribed pressure to the side 51' by a compressed spring 434. The quantity of exhaust is regulated by a valve 81 to feed the tape 3 for a predetermined time. |
