Reject mineral wool material is converted into a fibre material wherein 90% of the fibres have a length of between 10 to 300 .mu.m, by compressing the fibre structure between two rotating rolls or a rotating roll and a stationary surface whereby its fibres are caused to be broken by sharp bending and the joint effect of bending and compressing. This fibre material can then be conveyed to a melting furnace to remelted.
