Portable rubber hardness meter - with motorised cam control of the rate of indentation

A portable instrument for measuring hardness has a spring loaded plunger (2) which is released and retracted by a motor driven cam (6). The distance of indentation by the plunger is measured by a suitable dial gauge or transducer. Used esp. for testing rubbers etc., by placing the base of the casing on a sample (1) and then activating the cam drive by a mains supply or batteries as appropriate. Opt. the max. identation is retained by e.g. a lazy pointer or a digital read out which has to be manually cancelled. The rate of applicn. of the identer is positively controlled and not dependant upon the operator. More accurate and reproducible than other portable hardness meters, smaller and more portable than conventional accurate laboratory durometer.
