The invention concerns an exercising unit with a liftable weight guided along a vertical guide means. At the upper end of the guide means a sheave is mounted adjacent the wall completely behind the carriage for the weight and the guide means. This arrangement allows a multitude of exercising of the "high pull" type in many directions. Even a pulling force parallel to the wall to which the exercise unit is mounted can be carried out when the sheave is pivotally mounted in accordance with a further developed embodiment of the invention.
