<p>An arrangement for the adaptive encoding of video signals from any pattern or scene has a digitizing unit (5) and an image evaluation unit (6) between which there is arranged a transformation unit (2) of adjustable threshold and a compression unit (4) for the image points. A respective histogram generator (3) is provided for each transformation unit (2), the generator (3) being logically connected to the associated transformation unit (2) and compression unit (4).
