<p>This method depends on the fact that when the stage of intense loss of phosphorus in the molten metal has taken place there is a sudden large decrease in the sound intensity coming from the converter. If the concentration of iron in thee slag is measured at this time, the quantity of oxygen required to complete refining to the required compsn. of steel may be determined by consulting calibration curves for the given converter. After feeding this quantity of oxygen into the converter, the steel is completely refined. Alternatively completion of refining can be found by measuring the compsn. of the molden metal or its temp.</p> |
