PURPOSE:An odorless and nontoxic one part type permanent waving agent, containing a reducing agent, an air oxidation accelerator and a sulfite compound essentially, and capable of giving an undamaged and nonporous hair by an operation in a short time without using a storing oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:A one part type permanent waving agent containing a reducing agnet, e.g. a sulfide, hydrosulfide or thioglycolate, as a main component and further an air oxidation accelerator and a sulfite at a molar ratio of 1.0 or more based on the reducing agent and kept at a pH of 8-11. The agent severs the sulfur bonds of cystine in the hair as shown in the reaction formulas (M and M' are alkaline metal, ammonium group, etc.) to curl the hair, and then fixes the curl by recovering the sulfur bonds with the action of the air oxidation accelerator, e.g. hexamethylenetetramine, in the alkaline solution. The action of the reducing agent is not so strong as to damage the hair, and the absence of a strong oxidizing agent will not cause the evolution of hydrogen cyanide, etc. and therefore the hair is not damaged. The amount of the reducing agent is 0.16-0.4wt%, and that of the sulfite is an equimolar amount of 0.14-0.5wt% or more, preferably 0.8wt%. |
