PURPOSE:To obtain a resin, having improved gloss, and drying property, and suitable for an offset printing vehicle, by reacting a resol type phenolic resin-formaldehyde precondensate with a vegetable oil, a rosin and a polyhydric alcohol, etc. to give specific acid value and softening point. CONSTITUTION:(i) A resol type phenolic resin-formaldehyde precondensate is reacted with (ii) a vegetable oil, e.g. tall oil, having an iodine value >=100, (iii) a rosin, (iv) a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. glycerol, and if necessary (v) a monobasic or dibasic acid, e.g. maleic acid, collectively. Alternatively, a rosin ester obtained by reacting the components (iii) with (iv) and if necessary the component (v) is reacted with the components (i) and (ii) to give the aimed resin having an acid value <=30 and a softening point >=70 deg.C. |
