The radial-flow pump for circulating cooling water around the circuit for cooling a vehicle engine has blades (5) which are curved in one direction to assist the water flow. These blades are made of bimetallic material and the part with the larger coefficient of expansion is on the convex side of the blades. The design ensures that the quantity of water conveyed by the blades varies with the changes of speed or loading of the engine. The curvature is controlled automatically by the temperature of the cooling water and/or the rotary speed of the pump.
