The fluid director vanes are made up of two thin parallel vanes, rather than the usual single heavy vane, ensuring easier movement of the vanes and better sealing when closed together to cut-off the water supply to the turbine wheel (2). The vanes are placed between the turbine wheel (2) the outer fixed vanes (5) in the outerpart of the water supply volute (1). Two parallel vanes (6,7) are fixed to a single positioning shaft (8) so that the outside profile of the pair lies along the profile (9) which would be used for a single heavy vane. The thinner edges of the double vanes provides better water sealing when the vanes are in the closed position (6 and 7 (primed and double primed)).
