MULTILAYER SHEETS CONTAINING SYNTHETIC FIBRES

Sheets comprising thermoplastic synthetic fibres or blends thereof containing up to 95% by weight of cellulose fibres ae made to adhere by inserting between the sheets a film of a thermoplastic polymer having: (a) a melting temperature lower than that of the thermoplastic polymer constituting the synthetic fibres; (b) a viscosity of less than 10<8> poises, measured at a temperature of from a temperature exceeding by 10 DEG C its melting temperature to a temperature exceeding by 20 DEG C the melting temperature of the thermoplastic polymer constituting the sythetic fibres; (c) a surface tension not exceeding by more than 5 dynes/cm the surface tension of the thermoplastic polymer constituting the synthetic fibres; (d) a solubility parameter at 25 DEG C in a ratio of from 0.85:1 to 1.15:1 to the solubility parameter of the thermoplastic polymer constituting the synthetic fibres; by heating and compressing the laminate of sheets and film at a temperature of from a temperature exceeding by 10 DEG C the melting temperature of the thermoplastic polymer constituting the film to a temperature exceeding by 20 DEG C the melting temperature of the thermoplastic polymer constituting the synthetic fibres.
