PURPOSE:To prevent any variation in the dimension of a separator, and enable good contacg between the separator and a positive electrode by using a separator prepared by laminating not less than two grafted polyethylene films in such a manner that the shrinkage direction and the expansion direction of the laminated films are perpendicular to one another. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 2 made of silver oxide is packed into a metal case 1 also serving as a positive terminal. A separator 3, an electrolyte holding material 4, and a gel-like negative agent 5 made of zinc powder are placed over the positive mixture 2, in that order. After that, a metal sealing plate 7 also serving as a negative terminal is placed on the negative agent 5, with an insulating gasket 6 interposed between the case 1 and the plate 7, to seal the battery, thus an alkaline battery being constituted. The separator 3 is formed by laminating an unifying at least two polyethylene films, which are prepared by subjecting acrylic acid or methacrylic acid to graft-polymerization, in such a manner that the shrinkage direction and the expansion direction of the unified film body in an alkaline electrolyte are perpendicular to one another. Here, the shrinkage rate and the expansion rate are preferably below 15%. |
