PURPOSE:To eliminate any inconvenience arising during the activation of a heat cell having a negative electrode principally containing calcium and an elctrolyte containing a lithium salt, and enhance the reliability of the cell by making a protecting ring for the negative electrode to be impregnated with an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:A battery element for a heat cell is constituted of: a unified body of a negative collecting plate 1 made of iron, nickel or the like and a negative electrode 2 principally containing calcium; a unified pellet body 3 consisting of an elctrolyte layer 3' prepared by impregnating an inorganic adsorbent such as silica with an electrolyte made of an eutectic salt of lithium chloride and potassium chloride (43:57 by wt%), and a positive mixture 3'' layer made up of the elctrolyte and a positive active material such as tungstic anhydride; a positive collecting plate 4. The periphery of the negative electrode 2 is provided with a protecting ring 5; an inner ring 5'' and an outer ring 5' are provided for a battery element having a fire path hole 6. The ring 5 is made of a heat resistant material such as asbestos paper impregnated with an oxidizing agent such as potassium chromate. Owing to the above constitution, CaLi2 alloy generated during the activation of the cell is made nonconductive, and the reliability of the cell is enhanced. |
