A method for separating substantially immiscible liquids (A, B) of differing densities such as oil-water mixtures, characterized by introducing said mixture into a preferably open container wherein there is positioned a tube (4) extending above and below the surface (12) of liquid in said container establishing an interface between said liquids of differing densities in said tube and recovering the less dense liquid from the upper portion of said tube preferably at a level (7) above that of the heavier liquid in said container, said introduction being effected in such a manner that the less dense material flows into said tube, said tube preferably being disposed at an angle to the vertical. |
