PURPOSE:To prepare granules of flexible graphite for molding, having high bulk density and improved flow properties simply and easily, by dipping particles of flexible expanded graphite in a liquid, followed by stirring. CONSTITUTION:Particles of flexible expanded graphite having a bulk density <=0.01g/cc are dipped in a liquid (e.g., water, an alcohol, etc.) in an amount about 25 times as heavy as that of the particles, stirred by a twin-cylinder mixer, etc., and compressed so that their bulk density is increased and they made into granules. The prepared slurry of granules of graphite is subjected to a filter press, etc. to remove the liquid, and dried to give granules of graphite having a bulk density about 0.03-0.05g/cc. The granules of graphite are fed to a screw extruder having a compression ratio about 2-3 and transported (the end of the extruder is open), to give granules of graphite having a bulk density 0.05-0.1g/cc. |
