Two parts of a hinge joint, on the body of a piece of furniture and a door or flap, are linked by an inner and outer guide-rod, with four hinge axes altogether forming a quadrilateral in the open position, in conjunction with a locking spring with two shanks formed as looped leaf springs. On the outer guide-rod (16), the spring (21) is supported via a pressure piece (24) made of plastics, with good sliding qualities. The peripheral surface of this piece, on the spring side, is shaped as a control face, with distance from the hinge axis (7) of the outer guide-rod, on the body side, first increasing to a max. interval appropriate to the neutral point setting, and then decreasing again, in the direction of the opening movement of the swivelling hinge piece.
