Composite reflectors for use in a greenhouse are constructed to block at least some of the long wavelength radiation entering the greenhouse during the day. At night, the reflectors are adjusted to reflect back into the greenhouse heat being lost as long wave radiation. Opt. the reflectors include passages for a heat transfer fluid to collect the absorbed heat during the day for return during the night. Used to reduce daily temp. variations without additional energy input. Pref. the reflectors are solid or hollow slats which can rotate about their longitudinal axis and are mounted in arrays with the absorbent faces coated with a blue pigment (such as 'Turnball blue' or ultramarine; the reflective faces are coated with a red pigment such as aniline red, auramine or vermillion. Opt. the absorbent faces also selectively reflect beneficial short wave radiation into the greenhouse during the day. Opt. the rear wall of the greenhouse is covered with a screen of similar material.
|
