Provided are a method for preparing a concentrated material of agar-agar to remove the offensive odor generated during the extracting process of agar-agar, and a functional food composition containing the concentrated material of agar-agar. A method comprises the steps of washing dried agar-agar and dehydrating it; adding purified water to the dehydrated agar-agar, treating it with a weak acid and extracting it; repeating the addition of purified water and the extraction; filtering the extracted solution; and concentrating the filtered solution and deodorizing the concentrated one. Preferably the weak acid is citric acid, acetic acid or malic acid.
